Upgrade

You love your newly purchased home…or you cherish your beloved older one. Inevitably change is necessary. Floors wear out, your family grows (or shrinks) out of your space, and styles change. DVA can remove and replace anything that doesn’t serve you.

WALLS — Take out a wall to open up space. Take only part of a wall away, add some high-backed stools and you have a trendy pony wall bar. Build a wall where you need more separation and coziness. DVA can drywall, plaster or paint. It can be texture finished or smooth. An old wall can be tiled to make a backsplash or a shower stall can have a mosaic effect. Say goodbye to that faded wallpaper—DVA will make it disappear. Old plaster and lath can become brittle and you might think you’re stuck with it, but did you know you can re-sheet the wall with a layer of drywall and have a fresh start?

FLOORS — The cracks in your vintage hardwood floors are giving you grief. The stained vinyl in your bathroom has seen better days. You just bought a beautiful home and it would be perfect if it only had Spanish tile. Get DVA to help with any of those problems and more. Composite floors are an excellent option. New vinyl materials are much improved over the old. And, of course, few things are as luxurious as new hardwood.

CABINETS — You might be surprised and pleased to find out that replacing your dated old cabinets with new ones can be just as economical, if not more so, than refinishing. MDF, laminates, hardwood and metal…we can help explain the pros and cons with various materials. If you do want a refinish however, they can be taken down and painted inside and out, with new hardware for added sparkle. Bathroom cabinets come in a wide range of styles nowadays…maybe it’s time to try something cutting edge like a floating vanity.

PLUMBING — Even steel can wear out! Have a new sink installed, whether in the bathroom, kitchen, art studio or bar. Get that garbage disposal you always wanted, or replace the broken one. You might want to treat yourself to a futuristic new toilet/bidet with all the bells and whistles. DVA can give you some exciting ideas.

LIGHTS — When it’s time to install under-mount lighting in the new cabinets, DVA can do that. We can convert your existing fluorescent ballast to energy-efficient LED. Your recessed can lights can be upgraded for better ambient light, or maybe more targeted pendants for project lighting. We can create warm and soft lighting to set a relaxing mood or focus on increasing visibility for your makeup routine. Back-lit vanity mirrors with integrated dimmers evenly light your face and come in both cool and warm tones, doing double duty by defogging the mirror. If natural lighting is what you need, we even do windows and skylights!

ELECTRICAL — You’ll want any new electrical appliances installed right, be it a dishwasher, stove, or exhaust fans. Old-style knobs can be hazardous. Upgrade your electrical panel to support your new kitchen appliances. We can check out your electrical to make sure that your investment is protected. Maybe you want to go all out with tech in the bathroom—get DVA to install built-in speakers and Bluetooth control.

COUNTERTOPS — Ask DVA about tile, stone, quartz, concrete, marble, granite, formica or laminate. We work with some of the best suppliers from all over the Bay Area, and will even contract them to do the installation, so you can trust that it’s done perfectly.

From Scratch

If a whole new building on your property is what you need, DVA has experience with great solutions. We can work off of your existing plans or bring in one of our affiliated architects. If a pre-fab building interests you DVA can make that happen, too. Imagine a new workshop, or playhouse for the kids! Some people even build structures for their pets.

Safety & Logistics

DVA has great relationships with a variety of sub-contractors for anything outside of our immediate area of expertise. Your electrical and plumbing needs are in good hands. We’re experienced with minimizing mess and protecting your environment while we work, including sectioning off a whole room with temporary zipper walls as a barrier against dust or paint spray.

Before we do any demolition we’ll assess where load-bearing support is situated in your space. Never fear, more support can always be added! We also offer Home inspections for things like termite damage, dry rot, leaky roofs, water/fire damage and foundations.

DVA has experience with modern upgrades that allow people to gracefully “age in-place". Improve safety with the addition of a folding seat and grab bars that prevent slip and falls. Improve the shower experience by installing a beautiful, sleek low or no curb shower stall with adjustable shower wands. Every day can be spa day! Retain your independence incorporating wheelchair accessibility throughout your home with cabinet and doorway modifications.

Will your ADU or addition require plans with permits?
Before you put pen to paper, DVA can meet with the building department on your behalf. Cities and counties have different ordinances and easements. We can sort through the red tape and paperwork to get you definitive answers on your project.
